The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee selected Kiribati President Anote Tong and India’s Dr. Modadugu V. Gupta as the co-recipients of the first Sunhak Peace Prize.
President Anote was recognized for raising awareness on the gravity of climate change, and his efforts for the rights of refugees affected by the climate. Dr. Gupta has been highly recognized for his contributions towards resolving poverty and the food crisis through innovative fish farming technology.
The Sunhak Peace Prize was established by the founders of the Unification Church, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and his wife, in order to discover and recognize individuals and organizations who have contributed towards the peace and welfare of future generations…
[SBSCNBC] The first awardee of the Sunhak Peace Prize, the first “Korean Nobel Peace Prize,” has been unveiled.
The awardees of the First Sunhak Peace Prize, which is awarded to individuals and organizations who have greatly contributed towards world peace and the welfare of humankind, have been selected.
They are President Anote Tong of Kiribati, who raised awareness for the climate change crisis and Dr.
Gupta Modadugu of India who helped resolve the food crisis through the development of fish farming technology.

President Anote Tong of Kiribati, who worked for the sake of world peace on the frontline of climate change and Dr. Gupta Modadugu of India who raised a Blue Revolution through the development of innovative fish farming technology were selected as the co-recipients
Dr. Gupta Modadugu of India, who is also known as the “Pioneer of the Blued Revolution” and “East Asia’s saint for the poor people,” has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Gupta’s goal is to aid poor people through innovative fish farming technology. He showed the low- cost and highly efficient technology of “integrated agriculture-aquaculture”(IAA) to the poor people and supported efforts for the improvement of nutritive conditions and self-sufficiency.
President Atone Tong of the small South Pacific island of Kiribati has been raising awareness on the gravity of climate change in the global community, and has made efforts toward the protection of climate refugees’ human rights.
Furthermore, President Tong also established the Pheonix Islands as a protected ocean region, despite the hopeless circumstance of his country’s imminent risk of being submerged. He is leading the way in conserving the marine ecosystem.

Dr. Gupta and President Tong were selected as the co-recipients of the Sunhak Peace Prize for their great contributions toward the peace and welfare of future generations.
The Sunhak Peace Prize was established by Dr. Hak Ja Han of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, targeting individuals and organizations, in order to propose a new peaceful civilization befitting the 21st century.
The Sunhak Peace Prize, which has selected its first awardees, will be giving them a monetary prize of one million U.S. dollars, making it the greatest humanitarian award with the world’s highest accompanying monetary prize.

The Sunhak Peace Prize, which has an accompanying monetary prize of one million U.S. dollars (about 1,000, 000, 000 won) selected Kiribati President Anote Tong (63) and India’s Dr. Modadugu V. Gupta (76) as the awardees of the first Sunhak Peace Prize. It was proposed by Dr. Han in order to spread the awareness of the philosophy of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, and the selections are made by the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee (Chairman Il-Shik Hong). The Sunhak Peace Prize ceremony will be held on August 28.
The committee revealed at a press conference in Washington DC on the 8th that, “President Tong was highly recognized for his efforts in raising awareness on the seriousness of climate change in the international society, and Dr. Gupta for standing on the frontline in resolving East Asia’s poverty and food crisis.” President Tong of the Pacific island nation of Kiribati let the world know that his country is at risk of being completely submerged by the sea by 2050, due to rising sea levels caused by global warming. He has also been leading efforts to find a global solution to change the environment, and has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
