80.6% of Nepalese believe in Hinduism. 10.7% believe in Buddhism, 4.2% believe in Islam and a mere 0.5% believe in Christianity.

Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, which entered Nepal forty years ago, has quickly taken root. The Family Federation singled out Nepal as “the only nation in the world to produce a member of congress from the Family Party.

The Family Federation has pioneered this “model peace nation of God,” which Rev. Sun Myung Moon (1920~2012) had an eye on. Out of 1,200 schools, 110 couples composed of principals and presidents of top schools were invited to Thailand for a five-day Divine Principle workshop. After returning to Nepal, they advised the parents of their students to sign up for the Divine Principle course. There are two member of the Nepalese Congress from the Family Party. Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, who ran in the general elections in 2013, joined the Family Federation 20 years ago, and was Chairman of the Nepal Poverty Relief and Support Department.

Family Federation authorities have proudly stated that “Nepal’s leaders have accepted the Divine Principle (the Holy Scriptures of the Family Federation), testified to Rev. Moon as the coming Avatar (the incarnation of God on the earth) and dedicated the universities they own to the UPF.” This is the truth. There are plans to build a Peace University on the land donated to the UPF by a famous Nepalese clergywoman.

The Divine Principle is currently being broadcasted on Nepalese TV. There are also several universities that allow students a break from lectures so that they can view the Divine Principle broadcast. They welcome anything that is related to the Family Federation. When the Little Angels performed in Nepal, it was broadcasted live by 10 different TV stations. A Nepali edition of Rev. Moon’s autobiography, “As a Peace Loving Global Citizen,” has also been published.

In February, the Family Federation hosted a grand event in Nepal. The 16th South Asian Peace Initiative International Conference with the leading topic, “The Increasing Challenges from Extremism to Democracy: Issues and Responses” was held. The 2015 Multicultural Family Educational Peace Festival with the theme of “building a peaceful world through pure true families” was also held. Nepal’s Vice

President Parmananda Jha, Prime Minister Honorable Sushil Koirala, Former Prime Minister H.E. Madhav Kumar Nepal, Minister of Education Chitralekha Yadav and other guests participated in this conference. Seven thousand people attended the festival at Dasarath Rangasala Stadium.

Vice President Jha publicly supported the Family Federation and stated, “Here, I can see that Nepal’s tradition of families is still alive and well. I still vividly remember the Cosmic Peace Blessing Ceremony held at Sun Moon University in Korea in 2010. At that time, I made a resolution together with Rev. Moon and Dr. Han to revive the value of families and to work hard for the sake of world peace and Nepal’s future. Without realizing true love in the family, peace cannot be realized and furthermore, a nation overflowing with love cannot be established. I hope the government can seriously consider the declaration of ‘Parents’ Day’ and be helpful in realizing a peaceful and cultural society in the future. The National Assembly is in the process of composing a draft of the new constitution. I hope that this constitution will reflect our people’s desire and protect family values.” The members of the Family Party proposed the enactment of Parents’ Day to the Nepalese Congress.

The great earthquake in Nepal made religion itself look foolish. Countless lives were taken away, but there was nothing the gods could do; they could not block it. At this point in time, religion in Nepal is only used for funerals. There is nothing religion can do apart from comforting the families of the deceased by carrying out in-depth investigations and solemn ceremonies.

“God is the parent of humankind. Human beings are fundamentally spiritual beings. Marriage is a sacred institution and the family is the school of love. God’s ideal is living for the sake of others. Cooperation transcending religious and national barriers is the essence of world peace.” This is the Family Federation’s Five Great Peace Creeds. They are values that anyone can agree with, regardless of religion. This is why the Family Federation is a religion, but is, at the same time, not a religion.

Family Federation’s Dr. Hak Ja Han is sending one million dollars (1.1 billion won) in relief aid to Nepal, which was devastated by the earthquake. This amount is five to ten times more than the relief aid of other religions. Therefore, this donation amount offers proof on the scale of religious presence in Nepal…
