[Segye Times] Universal Peace Federation (UPF) International Conference held in Russia with the topic of Peace on the Korean Peninsula
The Universal Peace Federation (UPF), a global peace NGO, hosted the “Korea-Russia International Conference and Peace Ambassadors Brotherhood Ceremony for Peace in East Asia” in Russia from the 22nd to the 26th.
This conference was organized in order to seek out Russia’s role in establishing sustainable peace among East Asian nations and the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula. From the Korean side, twenty- six representatives participated, including the President of the Korean Council on Foreign Relations Tae- Ik Jung (previous ambassador to Russia), Committee for Unification Preparation member Sun-Jong Park and Peace Ambassador Sang-Gil Lee.
On the 23rd of April, UPF officials, current and former diplomats and scholars representing Korea and Russia gathered and gave lectures on measures toward reunification and peace of the Korean Peninsula at the conference held at the Moscow Headquarters of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.
UPF Eurasia’s President Jin-Hwa Jung mentioned in his lecture that “The International Peace Highway (Peace Road) project advocated early on by Rev. Sun Myung Moon must be realized and become a decisive opportunity for peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula” and emphasized that “In order to do that, it is time for Russia to come forward assertively.”
UPF Korea President Byung-Ho Son explained that “Russia’s cooperation is necessary so that Korea, which has the excellent technical skills in the recent North Korean Railway Modernization Enterprise that is being advanced between North Korea and Russia, can participate together. Especially if it can become connected to the plans of constructing the ‘Peace Roads’ including the Trans-Korean Railway (TKR) and Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR), then the way toward developing the resources in the Siberia Maritime Province will be opened, and it will also contribute greatly towards Russia’s economic revival.”
