FFWPU, WFWP and UPF Donate Relief to Typhoon-Ravaged Vanuatu

[Segye Times] Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Donates Damage Relief Equipment to Typhoon-Ravaged Vanuatu

On March 30th, the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (hereafter referred to as “Family Federation”) Oceania Regional President In-Soung Kwon and party met with the Republic of Vanuatu’s President Baldwin Lonsdale at the damaged Presidential Residence to donate damage relief equipment including chainsaws and tents for areas affected by Cyclone Pam. On March 13th, the island of Vanuatu in the South Pacific was hit by a cyclone, causing serious destruction, including damage to the Presidential Residence. Family Federation’s Dr. Hak Ja Han gave directions to donate two hundred thousand dollars in aid towards the recovery from damages caused by the typhoon in Vanuatu.

Regional President Kwon conveyed words of comfort to President Lonsdale on behalf of Dr, Han, “Do not lose hope.” President Lonsdale replied, “On behalf of the nation, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Han and the Family Federation.” President Lonsdale plans to attend the 3rd Anniversary of Rev. Sun Myung Moon and the World Summit Conference to be held in August later this year.

On this day, Regional President Kwon and party donated 60 chainsaws in order to get rid of trees that had been uprooted by the typhoon as well as 100 tents to be used by refugees in the shelters. The Family Federation plans to continuously provide support throughout this Vanuatu Relief Project. In order to do that, they created the slogan “Food is Love” and had 20 volunteers from Korea, Japan and Australia make 1,000 sandwiches for the refugees every day for 40 days.

The Family Federation’s missionary activities in Vanuatu began in 1982. In August of last year, in cooperation with the Women’s Federation for World Peace, they donated 1,500 books to three schools…

On March 30th, the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (hereafter referred to as “Family Federation”) Oceania Regional President In-Soung Kwon and party met with the Republic of Vanuatu’s President Baldwin Lonsdale. He presented the 60 chainsaws and 100 tents donated by Dr. Hak Ja Han of the Family Federation in order to aid with the recovery from damage caused by Cyclone Pam on the 13th.

President Lonsdale replied, “On behalf of the nation, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Han, the Family Federation and the Universal Peace Federation for helping us in these difficult times. I strongly support the peace movement led by Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han all over the world, and I will definitely participate in Rev. Moon’s 3rd Seonghwa Anniversary and World Summit Conference.”

The Family Federation made 1,000 sandwiches for the refugees every day for 40 days, upholding the slogan “Food is Love.” 20 volunteers from Korea, Japan and Australia participated. They plans to donate cement, bricks and galvanized steel toward the reconstruction of homes. A total of two hundred thousand dollars was donated.

On the one hand, Vanuatu Family Federation President Jong-Duk Yu has been introducing Korea’s Saemaeul Movement in Vanuatu since 2011, leading an enlightenment movement; and on the other hand, he focuses on character education for young adults.

Dr. Han first visited Vanuatu in August, 2006 during the World Peace Speaking Tour and delivered the message of peace. Then Prime Minister Ham Lini expressed gratitude to Rev. Moon and Dr. Han for their peace movement. Following that, leaders from Korea were regularly sent to help with education and volunteering. The Family Federation’s activities in Vanuatu began in 1982.
