Going, going, gone!
The congregation of the Washington, DC Church on Columbia Road has been asked to remove itself from the building by June 1st. According to the letter from Rev. Richard Buessing, there is a multitude of safety issues.
True Father said this about the opening of the Columbia Road Church in Washington, DC on Dec. 4, 1977:
“I had another thought when I walked into the building. The Mormons built this building with lots of energy and hard work, but then they sold it. They abandoned it and then went out and built a new temple. The important question is: did they put more energy, tears and sweat into building the new and bigger temple than they did for this church, or did they just invest a lot of money and give the plans to the contractor to build? Did money build it, or heart, sweat and labor? That’s the important question.”
At a tumultuous meeting after church worship May 6, several of the congregants expressed deep frustration and disappointment. A meeting for all interested persons has been called at the Church for 6 pm Wednesday, May 9.
Just three weeks left to visit this historic building and take pictures. The Mormons have been coming by for 40 years expressing regrets to have let her go. A nationwide campaign to collect donations from each family has never been promoted by national leadership. That effort might be a topic of the Wednesday meeting of minds and hearts.
