What is the Faculty Roundtable Series? The Faculty Roundtable Series is dedicated to presenting current academic research conducted by UTS faculty, alumni, and students. Each event will feature a new speaker and topic and include an opportunity for questions and commentary.

Topic Description Chrismahanukwanzakah: The World’s First Global Holiday In spite of fierce opposition from many political and religious leaders, globalization is a fact of the 21st Century if not the 3rd Millennium. As Thomas Friedman argues in his book “The World is Flat” the planet has become one giant marketplace of ideas, people, products, culture, and religions. For the first time in human history, Chrismahanukwanzakah, is now celebrated world wide. This global holiday is the first step in the emergence of a unique planetary identity that transcends the historic barriers of race, culture, language, and religion.

Dr. Ronald Brown is an authority on the religious history of New York City. He has published three books on the subject; A Religious History of Flushing, Queens (2007), Into the Soul of African-American Harlem (2008), How New York Became the Empire City (2009), and is presently working on how New York City invented the Holiday Season.

He has taught history and political science at Touro College since 1994 and world religions at the Unification Theological Seminary since 2002. He designed new classes in New York History and the religious history of New York for both institutions.
