WFWP Scotland, UK: Earth Day Project at Gartlea Garden Retirement Home

In connection with World Earth Day we decided to have a community project at a retirement home to give joy and inspiration to the residents. We previously visited this home when Japanese sisters were in Scotland. 4 WFWP members and 2 supporters started the day by clearing the outside garden area and then planted new shrubs and flowers. Alongside this activity, some repainted the decking area and gave it a fresh appearance.

We received financial support from 3 groups that we approached for help and the local B and Q store donated compost and gravel and gave a voucher which we used towards the purchase of the flowers.

The manager of Gartlea Garden Retirement home offered us tea and coffee and expressed much appreciation for what we had done for their centre. She later thanked us again by email and requested some photos to send with her report to the local council.

People who passed by and saw us working, stopped and asked about the service and also expressed their gratitude and appreciation.
