Reflection on Hyung Jin Nim's lecture on July 20, 2012 (Part 5)

After speaking for nearly three hours about various issues based on Kook Jin Nim’s lectures Hyung Jin Nim said on July 20, 2012: “This is the first time in our movement when we can look at these issues through the lens of Principle. That’s why I find it so exciting. I find it so exciting because for the first time we can work with reality: How would that work with free economic market? How would that work with geopolitical situations which include defense, right? How would that work with social issues? We were silent on all these issues, we didn’t have a clear response. This is why I find this is the most exciting – finally a comprehensive realistic vision… Honestly, I just could not buy that just by doing these ceremonies…”

I would also be excited like Hyung Jin Nim if the insights he was talking about were applied to our own movement so that we can see ourselves clearly through the lens of the Principle, the Word of God, revealed to us through the True Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind.

But unfortunately our international president did not realize that his first responsibility in front of the members from around the world would have been to speak about these topics he addressed in terms of the reality of our own church where leaders are still acting not only as bullies but like tyrants which can be proven by many examples.

Hyung Jin Nim emphasized: “We are talking about the ability to protect people’s freedom. That is the central point. Freedom fighters. What does that mean? To protect people’s freedom. If we have national power we don’t just force Unification Church. We believe that people have the God-given right and free will – of course responsibility comes with that. I hope I say this enough – and free will.

We are constantly wooed by archangels to believe that we should not trust. I heard many people who said. ‘Oh my God, I don’t trust people. There are so many evil people.’… Not to trust people, that’s the culture in the satanic world. Obviously God’s culture would be different, it will be opposite, which is, you will trust human beings. You trust Adam and Eve. You let them own everything. If government owns everything – communist countries have that, the government owns everything and citizens have nothing. What you have in free societies is that citizens own 90 to 95 percent, realistically.”

Now, is this a reality in our movement that public assets belong 90 to 95 percent to our brothers and sisters? The spirit of centralized dominion became once again obvious when the World Mission Headquarters sent out “Special Instructions for Taking an Inventory of All Public Assets Worldwide” and then three weeks later a reminder because, “So far only a few have submitted the requested information.”

This shows that our brothers and sisters do not want to be controlled and report everything to one of two e-mail addresses which interestingly have as the first part of their address the word “hunter” (hunter8503@s… or hunter8503@g…). I am sorry, but for me the association is that there is somebody in Headquarters who is hunting for money, for assets, because what is being requested is the submission of information such as a “copy of the original purchase contract, detailed information of the owner, revenue by lease or rent: contract, income statement, etc.”

Of course it is all done for a good purpose as it includes even the request for a “plan to prevent any arbitrary selling out.” But why the request that any changes including renovating have to be reported and discussed in advance with the Mission Foundation? Does this not sound like a centralized system where a few people in Korea play a big part in the decision making of what is going on in our movement around the world? Are our members in the different countries not mature enough to decide themselves how they manage their public assets?

What does sovereignty and ownership actually mean? In this case nothing. What we are getting from the leaders is a lot of rhetoric and meaningless statements wrapped up in a bit of ‘recognizable’ Principle or truth. Isn’t this what Lucifer did when he spoke to Eve?

I think we have to be very careful here as I see perhaps some well-intentioned inspiration, but a lack of real mature thinking and understanding of human society, human relationships and how societies have developed over thousands of years to our current situation globally where many of the social infrastructures we have now will be fine-tuned and built on. The critical point to change is man’s heart, in his relationship and understanding of God and in his relationships horizontally with his fellow man and woman. The biggest shift in realizing God’s Ideal is in our hearts and ability to love, which the Unification Church till now has struck out on, big time.

What the True Children need to focus on now is sibling love and loving brothers and sisters more than we love True Parents and God Himself as Father stated. Without this concept taking root in our families and movement we will never build the Kingdom of Heaven. It will just evade us like a shadow. Father made this understanding very clear as in the following statements and therefore this is what we should take to heart.

“You must love the people of the Kingdom of God on earth and in heaven. They are your brothers and sisters. The three loves begin from there. The kind of model of siblings being able to love one another is the axis of the heavenly kingdom. It is an axis for the construction of the ideal Kingdom of Heaven. It is the axis on earth. It also becomes the axis of the heavenly world.”

“Only when we embrace the world and love all people with sibling love, will we join everything together in an ideal sphere of love; when that occurs, no mishap will severely shock us. Only then will all the substance of God’s thought finally bear fruit.

God’s ideal of children unites and bears fruit there: the fruit of children’s love, the fruit of siblings’ love, the fruit of the love of husband and wife and the fruit of parents’ love. When the plan that the incorporeal God had at the time of Creation is made substantial, upper and lower, front and rear and left and right will be merged with Him.” (Cheon Seong Gyeong, page 374, Last Paragraph LHS, November 4 1992)

“Through brothers and sisters a nation arises and all humankind arises. The relationship of brothers and sisters signifies front and back, a flat surface, but when flesh is added a sphere is formed. So it is brothers and sisters and the people of the nation who form the sphere. Brothers and sisters expand to become a people. The love of siblings is connected with the love for the world. A family where many brothers and sisters are growing up is like a model to embrace all people of the world and to create an ideal Kingdom of Heaven, the Kingdom of God on Earth and in Heaven. Hence brothers and sisters expand in number.” (CSG, p.374 2nd paragraph RHS, October 1, 1992)

That is profound! Let’s continue.

LOVE BETWEEN SIBLINGS (Cheon Seong Gyeong, page 1075-76)

“The path to heaven is opened by loving the members in the same way that you love God. You are trying to follow me, yet, with that same heart, you should strive to go together with your siblings. In this respect, we can conclude that the one who teaches the highest, quickest, and best way to go to heaven is neither God nor me but your siblings. The one who exerts himself with love greater than parental or conjugal love becomes the supreme subject being of love who then searches for his object partner.” (April 18, 1973)

Therefore running around after True Parents and True Children will not build the Kingdom of Heaven. We are supposed to be an example for True Children and to raise the up as Father himself asked of us on this year’s Day of Victory of Love.

Father made this statement: “Did God ever have his grandchildren? Was God able to love his son and daughter like that? You think about that. Now we are going through the history of recreation. We must go through and recreate them all. God is not just trying to save Americans. God has to save Bin Laden and Hussein.

You are not in the Unification Church to follow Rev. Moon but to become better than Father and unify everything. That is the meaning of Tong Il. Unification.” (Hoon Dok Hae March 2, 2003 Sheraton National Hotel, Arlington, Virginia)

Can we grasp the situation our Heavenly Parent is in, having to find a way to restore all people? It will not be achieved by following one person, Sun Myung Moon, but our Father in Heaven wants all of us to be true sons and daughters who have grown to maturity by developing our unique abilities and become better than True Father and True Mother who had to pioneer the way under most difficult circumstances. We stand on their victorious foundation and should show that as children we are doing better than our parents.

Is such an attitude rooted in arrogance or a humble attitude and a heart of loyalty in front of God and True Parents? If you pray seriously about this point you will know that such a heart is indeed of Heaven while the attitude of putting True Parents on a pedestal and worshipping them is actually rooted in the attitude of the archangel who does not want God’s children to excel!

Satan could not prevent True Parents reaching perfection but he managed to stop us from aspiring to become truly like them and to achieve an even deeper level of heart in one or another aspect, but instead, taught us to praise and adore them as an ideal which we cannot achieve as we are sinners…

Such is the tragedy of our movement which has become a church like others in the past, adoring pictures and statues without realizing that we are the ones who are supposed to embody the qualities we are adoring in our True Parents and to go beyond the standard of love and dedication which they have set because God Almighty is surely longing for ever greater realms of Heart and True Love as He wants to grow and develop through each and every one of His/Her children. That is our true identity as sons and daughters of our Creator who made us in His/ Her image.

God does not want to see us running around after people and ignoring our own conscience and relationship with Him. God is a jealous God, jealous to have an intimate, ‘only with you’ relationship. Do not make graven images and put others before God, do not worship false idols. Have we turned True Parents and True Family into a graven image, a false idol? Should we not seriously reflect about this question in light of all the historic failures to put only the Living God in the center whom each one of us is called to embody during our life here on earth – now in our daily life as His/Her beloved sons and daughters?

Do our children only relate to us through an intermediary, so they have only a second hand relationship with us? You want to speak directly to your children, so too does God. Then you will have ownership and sovereignty. This is determined by your relationship of heart with God and your love for brothers and sisters, not a leader, not an Archangel.
