Reflection on Hyung Jin Nim's lecture on July 20, 2012 (Part 4)

In his address to our members from around the world Hyung Jin Nim expressed his conviction that Kook Jin Nim is very realistic. It is important to base our observations and conclusions on reality and this attitude must also be applied to ourselves and our collective behavior as a leader-centered movement which exists against the desire of God and True Parents. That Father meets with leaders does not mean that we should simply follow them because their unprincipled behavior led to Father calling them not only rascals but also liars and thieves, idiots and bastards, etc.

Now, are we supposed to follow people who lie, who steal assets, who behave like dogs who eat dung? Of course not. And still we are doing it, waiting for the next direction from them to tell us what to do without realizing that we are loyal to people but not to the Living God who stands at the forefront, guiding the Providence. Unless we purify our hearts and minds completely our Heavenly Parent will not be able to establish His ideal through us.

Hyung Jin Nim emphasized during his speech that good people need to be strong and he spoke a lot about training in real martial arts which surely has its value but more importantly would be our spiritual strength and flexibility which allows us to respond wholeheartedly to the guidance of our Father/Mother in Heaven, our eternal Parent who wants to be present in our lives 100 percent in this new era of high noon settlement.

While giving his lecture Hyung Jin Nim mentioned our campaign to promote family values and he moved on from there to actual family politics where a culture of divorce was indirectly supported. After two hours of speaking he addressed the topic of a self-regulating society with a minimum amount of laws and government involvement while in reality American society and its people have been developing more and more dependence on their government.

Hyung Jin Nim made the statement: “If you understand the implications of what Kook Jin is talking about in the ‘Strong Abel’ and ‘Freedom Society’ lectures what you will quickly realize is that if the Unification Church has even national sovereignty we will not create a theocracy, we will not create a dictatorship. We will create a free society that is pushing a freedom society and it will also be prosperous.”

As I emphasized in the past, I want to make it clear here again: If we understand the implications of what True Father has been talking about in his speeches about the way of a true Abel and how we can achieve total freedom and complete liberation then we will quickly realize that our organizations have to be fundamentally changed, from being centralized to becoming centered on members, on the citizens of Cheon Il Guk, so that the dominion of a few over a big majority of members will finally come to an end.

Two and a half hours into the recording on vimeo vimeo.com/46221511 you can hear Hyung Jin Nim talk about guns, mentioning the shootings in American schools and how crime goes down if people are allowed to carry guns — 70% of Americans own a gun — while on that very same day the tragedy of the shooting in a movie theater cost the lives of 12 beloved children of God and nearly 60 more having been wounded in the city of Aurora (this name refers to the red colors on the sky at dawn) in the state of Colorado whose people suffered already greatly through the fires a few weeks earlier…

For me it is clear that the time and place of this tragedy is no coincidence at all but it is of course not easy to know the whole dimension of what happened on that day after the anniversary of the helicopter crash landing which represented the crucifixion of our True Parents while one day prior to this incident in Bulgaria a bus with Israeli (young) people was blown up costing again the lives of innocent children of God. The killing of people by people is continuing and the solution is not to speak about weapons but our thoughts and actions must be absolutely focused on the practice of True Love — in our midst so that it can be expanded from our loving relationships to the people of the world.

At 2 hours 39 minute of the recording you can hear Hyung Jin Nim using two kinds of scenarios to illustrate his point: If an Arabian country would give weapons to its people and say, ‘If we get corrupt you should fight us’ or the government of a nation making it very difficult for people to have weapons and saying, ‘We take care of your defense’, which one of the two possibilities shows that the government is admitting that it could become evil and, ‘If we do become evil, you the citizenship should fight us.’?

We all know the answer to such a question, but how many of us are ready to apply this understanding to our own movement which is actually in the hands of leaders who can easily perform corrupt actions and get away with it because we do not have any mechanism in place like a review board which allows members to address issues of malpractice, abuse and incorrect representation of True Parents’ teachings or directions. This is quite normal in the secular world and has been in existence for a long time. The so called fallen world has put in place many Commissions and Tribunals to address human rights violations of all descriptions. What has our church done? Accused members of being Cained out and resentful or just plain ‘ridiculous’, therefore re-victimizing the victim.

If you read through the more than 7000 pages of the book Sunshine in the Heart you will find the evidence of misuse of power and positions by certain leaders in various countries up to the more recent examples of unprincipled actions by people in key leadership positions in the European and American Unification Church. You also know about the actual reality of those leaders having cut me off, not being ready to communicate with me and getting away with this method of hiding their misdeeds, because I have no direct way of confronting them with what they have done or are doing in respect to their unprincipled behavior.

The misuse of power and position by certain core leaders of our movement is well proven but there is no institution in place to which one could appeal, for the truth and facts to be brought to light. This reality allows corruption to continue in our own ranks until we, the people, receive the weapons with which we can defend ourselves.

We are in a serious spiritual battle which we have very sadly lost continuously over the years in favor of the archangel whose spirit dominates our church, hindering God to be present in our midst. As Hyung Jin Nim said a couple of years ago, the Holy Spirit left our movement at the beginning of the nineteen eighties, and now our international president is coming up with further explanations of what is needed to secure a better future, but is he offering the right insights and conclusions?

Unfortunately not, and it is our collective responsibility to show him and Kook Jin Nim, In Jin Nim and other True Children in public positions in which points they are erring. True Father himself told us at the beginning of this year that we must raise up our elder brothers and sisters pointing to his children as they came forward to offer their bows on this year’s Day of Victory of Love. So far we have been doing very poorly in fulfilling this responsibility and have preferred to keep silent even when we know deep in our hearts that there is something wrong with what they are actually saying or doing.

Hyung Jin Nim spoke about the fact that if there is too much dependence on the government people are no longer free and it becomes very easy to control people. He pointed out with the here mentioned

example that, there are no checks and balances in that’ when all weapons are only in the hands of the government. However he does not realize that his insights must first of all be applied to our own church which has to be liberated from being a leader-centered movement where the actual power is in the hands of very few people who have more often than not misused their positions and caused ultimately the spiritual death of thousands of members including our Second Generation. The majority of whom are not ready to work in our church as they feel there is no place for them in our movement as the leader of the European Youth department pointed out in this year’s meeting for all leaders on this continent.

Such is the present tragedy: True children like Kook Jin Nim and Hyung Jin Nim speak out for a freedom society and a strong Abel Nation while at the same time not opening the door for their insights to be applied in our own movement, enabling our members around the world to decide their leaders on a local and national level so that the power which is until this day in the hands of a few individuals can be given to the people, our mature brothers and sisters who have been investing their lives to support God’s providence for decades.

Hyung Jin Nim emphasizes in his lecture: “God giving human beings the chance to choose” but this reality is not happening in our church. For example, as National Messiah for Andorra I am not free to go to other countries to witness and to support our movement there, because without permission from the European Office this is not possible and I was not even allowed to hand out a simple reflection on Cheon Il Guk to brothers and sisters in America.

Core leaders of our church in the archangel position took power into their own hands which does not belong to them and instead of serving their members they have been dominating them whether in subtle or more direct ways based on the unprincipled justification that they are in the Abel position and therefore their orders have to be followed, which is not true at all as Father had pointed out already decades ago!

For those who have still not taken these words to heart which are printed in black and white in the book God’s Will and the World which contains core speeches that Father himself compiled during his time in Danbury prison: “Japanese leaders aren’t you teaching a principle that I do not teach, when you say ‘I am Abel because I’m church leader. You are Cain. Cain obeys Abel. This is the Principle so obey.’ There is no such principle. The person who does not fulfil his mission and become the embodiment of love is not Abel.” (September 22, 1978)

Satan cleverly infiltrated our church so that even Father had to say: “I don’t know where this kind of strange thought that Abel is the central figure and in the position to command came from. I don’t know how that idea crept into our movement here in America. Many young members have left the church because of their leaders. I am already teaching Japanese people that just because they are Abel, it does not mean they are to command Cain. Rather, they must love Cain and subjugate him in a natural manner. If you think of yourself as an Abel, fine, do the mission of Abel. Abel’s role is not one of commanding or directing people to do this or that. Abel is the one who should sacrifice the most.”

These words were spoken decades ago but collectively we ignored Father’s guidance and instead followed the archangelic leaders, who falsely taught us that we have to follow their directions because they are Abel – without their actually standing in an Abel position.

Unfortunately we have not taken Father’s words to heart and did not put them into practice in very basic ways like establishing a member- centered movement after Father had declared the end of the leader- centered movement in his Historical Children’s Day speech of 1981 and the beginning of a new era where we are to live by love and not by commands which we receive from leaders, because the time to do so had come to an end – three decades ago! When will we finally take these directions seriously and implement them?
