Leadership Task Force - 1st Phase Report
2017-02-00 · Source: tparents.org
Dear FPA USA Community, Happy New Year everyone! We hope all of you are having a great start to this new and hopeful year of 2017. To all the families (parents, students, and children), thank you so much for giving us inspiration through your hard work and efforts.
As the three representatives from America for LTF 3rd Class, we are so grateful and humbled for this opportunity given by Heavenly Father to not only grow our parent-child relationship with Him and expand our heart of loving all of humankind, but to also be able to represent the entire country of the United States for the sake of God’s providence.
We have just finished our first out of three phases for this 1 st year of LTF in the beginning of this month of January. The theme of our 1st Phase was “Let us Substantiate the Culture of Heart by Embodying the Core Values in Our Daily Lives!” By first creating this culture within our LTF team through offering jungsung, project planning, and fundraising, we visited Nepal to spread that culture through service, giving Core Values education, and initiating several activities that were able to help unite our global family.
Even though all three of us are the youngest members of LTF 3rd Class and we do not have much experience, we know that Heavenly Father has so many expectations out of all of His children. Hence, rather than looking at ourselves as young, inexperienced people, we want to use our youthful spirit in order to invest and pour out all the energy and potential Heavenly Father has blessed us with.
LTF has offered this opportunity to do exactly that, and through all the experiences and realizations we’ve had during this 1st Phase, we can truly feel ourselves transforming in our hearts and having a clearer understanding of what our identity and responsibility holds for us. We want to truly thank Heavenly Father, True Parents, and True Family, as well as to all our families and loved ones in the community for your investment and constant support and love. We would like to take this time to share our best practices and experiences of this phase in a representative report from the three LTF members from USA.
As Hyun Jin Nim has emphasized how significant this year of 2017 is and what kind of expectations he has for this year, we will strive for that same level of standard for the upcoming 2nd Phase here in LTF and for the entire year. Thank you so much and let us all continuously offer jungsung through our investment for the sake of Providence so that we can successfully offer a victorious year to our Heavenly Father, True Parents, and True Family. Aju! -With love and sincerity, Kensu Bates, Namsik Yoo, and Takae Goto

PREPARATION IN KOREA
KICKOFF JUNGSUNG After the 1st phase education and being informed that LTF 3 rd class will be investing in Nepal, we kicked off the phase by offering a jungsung to Heavenly Father. We were informed in the morning that we will be hiking but due to unexpected circumstances, our jungsung activity was to complete a 500 puzzle piece within 3 hours.
“ We need to learn how we can create a culture that God can live in and it is a place that we are working as a team. We need to learn how to create this within our team first and when we create this culture we can bring this culture of heart to Nepal and spread it there. Then we set our jeong seong challenge of piecing a puzzle with our teams. This taught me to be able to work as a team and to focus on every piece as a piece that will contribute into realizing God’s dream. ” -Kensu Bates
PROJECT PLANNING
For 1st Phase, LTF worked with Service for Peace Korea, which is a providential organization Hyun Jin Nim founded in 2001. SFP aims to create enjoyable service, allow one to grow their heart, and build a bridge of peace through service.
“ During the 1st day of receiving lecture, Mr. Kang Sam Sang explained how there’s a huge difference of an impact a volunteer can make based upon one’s attitude: doing it because you are told to, or doing it because you really care for others. I realize that we as an LTF team must really take on this responsibility of investing in Nepal not with the mindset of doing it because it is part of the schedule of LTF or because SFP is setting it up for us, but because we want to make an heartistic impact on our brothers and sisters in Nepal. I am not doing this solely for my own overseas volunteering experience, but I am doing this to create God’s culture there with my team members so that together, including myself, my LTF family, and my family members in Nepal can all grow together through culture. ” – Namsik Yoo
FUNDRAISING To first build the culture of heart within the team, we first had to practice and live the Core Values within our daily life, and especially during the fundraising period. And so, we set daily goals based on the 17 Core Values sub-points and put all our focus throughout the day.
LTF went person-to-person fundraising throughout these 18 days in the Seoul Metropolitan area. The results were for the sake of the children in the Lower Paropakar School in Dhading, Nepal. However, at the end of the day, everything was an offering to Heavenly Father.
“ Before joining the program, I still had a lot of ego, and arrogance, wondering why I needed to join this program and go fundraising. But what made me decide to join in the end was to see how I reacted. I realized my attitude and character needs to grow so much more beyond myself and my own feelings. Being in the position to invest in 3rd class as a captain too was the perfect opportunity God has prepared for me to look beyond my own problems and emotions I’ve created for myself and to start living for something greater than myself, for the development of young future leaders, as I grow a motherly and nurturing heart towards the team…I was grateful to go back fundraising again, enjoying the interaction I had with the people I’ve met in various places, and also starting to see very clearly how I am understanding God’s heart through this process of investing in others with a heart of true love… ” -Ami Mowris (Uruguay) Team Captain
GPLC KOREA 2016
Before leaving to Nepal, LTF had came to support the Global Peace Leadership Conference. It was most of our first time joining in a GPF event. To see first hand what Hyun Jin nim has been doing and the impact he is making around the global was a good experience for all of us.
“ From this GPF event what I realized is the importance of the youth’s role and responsibility, especially in this era as a great turning point for Korea. Even though there are currently many different perspectives from political, economical, and social fields, I felt that if we focus on the common vision to why Korea must be united, we can mobilize the youth - not just through the minds but through the hearts. If we feel that love and care for their global family members, then we can make this dream of Korean unification into a reality. Just like how Terry Lewis wants to heal people through music, I believe this new song can be a catalyst to open people’s heart, especially the youth people’s spirits. I want to also find out my role in God’s providence so I can connect people’s hearts together. ”-Takae Goto

SARLAHI FUNDRAISING The previous LTF classes volunteered at a child care center in Sarlahi. However, this year 5 children graduated from the center and were encouraged to support their younger brothers and sisters in the center by fundraising with the FPA core members.
“ In my team, there was one Sarlahi graduate and a Core Member. Through my example I tried to teach them about taking ownership. By the end of the day, we weren’t close to our external goal and both of my partners were in some doubt whether we could achieve our goal or not with the given time left. But we kept going and went inside another store to fundraise. At first the cashier didn’t look very interested yet he donated. He started to take out body size bags and boxes of clothes, toy and school supplies. He even payed for our taxi and donated 500 rupees. On the ride back, I realized how important it is to never give up, especially when it’s for something greater than yourself. ” -Kensu Bates

“ During our last closing with the Core Members, I remember each CM talking about how they learned the importance of practicing the Core Values during their time with LTF. At that time, knowing that the decision was made for a CVA to officially start in Nepal with the CM being the educators for the program, I could feel so much hope and potential for providence in this country of Nepal. For the CM to be with LTF during our entire time in Nepal, and for them to also have the Core Values as the focus, they were able to truly grasp the importance of why they need to practice these values, which is for the sake of creating the right culture (God’s culture). ” -Namsik Yoo
BAGMATI RIVER CLEAN UP The Bagmati River runs through the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal and is considered holy river. Hindus are cremated on the banks of this holy river but many residents empty personal garbage and waste into the river.

NEW YEAR JUNGSUNG
On the morning of January 1st, we departed from Pokhara to begin our jungsung challenge. We went trekking from Nayapul to Ghorepani on the first day. Early morning the next day, we went up to Poon Hill (3210 m) to offer our sincerity to God in bringing about a victorious year of 2017. We went down the same trail the rest of the day.
“ Trekking Poon Hill gave me the opportunity to check what kind of attitude I had and what I wanted to offer to Heavenly Father. To be honest, Poon Hill was challenging. I persevered stomach aches, headaches and even lack of air, knowing that I will finish this hike with the promise I set to Heavenly Father. Overall from offering my yearly goals to Heavenly Father, I learned what kind of actions and jungsungs can always change but your mindset and attitude that drives you should always be a sincere offering to Heavenly Father. So even though the yearly jungsung hike is a preparation for the year, our daily mindset and attitude are also jungsung for a greater purpose bigger than ourselves. ” -Takae Goto
