Tribute by June Darby — FFWPU-UK.
I first met Mavis when Tim Read was the National Leader and we both were part of the Granny's Prayer Group, praying especially for the activities and people involved in Britain's Providential programs. Mavis, Enid Metcalfe and myself became good friends, and we would meet at the different church functions.
Then about 2001 Mavis and I both took part in a 40 Day Blessed Wives Workshop at Cheong Pyeong where we supported each other. At that time the building of Silvertown had just been completed, and the Managers were looking for people to move in to live there. Mavis' husband had recently died, and I was aware that she was looking for a positive purpose and direction for her life. So, I suggested the possibility of living at Silvertown, as True Parents intended it to be a home for retiring members. The concept inspired her and she immediately followed that up by returning to live there once her affairs had been put in order. Her life there was exemplary. She was always serving and loving everyone and made members visiting Korea welcome. In fact, True Mother praised Mavis — saying that she had laid an exemplary foundation for Westerners going to live in Korea.
In 2008 I went to teach English at the High School at Cheong Pyeong for 4 months to 14-year-old children when a teacher had backed out at the last minute and they were short of a teacher. I lived in the Teacher's Residence and while there Mavis invited me to spend every weekend with her, in her flat. It was very kind of her and my time with Mavis was the Highlight of my time at the High School. She helped me to meet True Parents once in the gardens of Silvertown and I got to know Jesus' bride who also lived at Silvertown.
Mavis had a great love of the ridiculous and she was very adventurous so we had so much fun and inspirations from the different events we attended and the outings that we enjoyed. One time we even flew to Jeju Island for the weekend and had a wonderful time sightseeing.
Mavis was a deeply devout person with many spiritual insights and personal experiences that she shared with me and we used to have some deep discussions about them. And she faithfully attended True Parents, going many times to the 5.00 am services at the Palace where True Parents lived.
In 2013 Mavis decided to return to England to be with her family, whom she had missed greatly while living in Korea.
She was actually planning to come and stay with me the last time we talked on the phone just before she passed on. She wanted to come and catch up on all that was happening in the Providence, although I had tried to share with her in our telephone conversations. I was really looking forward to having her stay with me, and am very sad that it is no longer possible.
I am sure that Mavis will be very active in the Spirit World and will comfort Heavenly Parents and True Parents with her joyous attendance and love for them.
